A memoir can be a powerful medium, encompassing various forms like prose and poetry. I am grateful to Readers’ Favorite for acknowledging me as a finalist in the non-fiction-cultural genre for my poetry book ‘Even Flowers Know That Water Is Useless Without Roots.’ The book delves into Tanzanian culture, East Africa, and my identity as a Tanzanian-born with a quarter-Indian paternal heritage.

As a writer more inclined towards writing than marketing, I am truly thankful to Readers’ Favorite for their support in promoting our work to industry professionals and readers, and for offering additional perks to the winners and finalists. Thank you for recognizing and championing writers’ efforts.

Being an amateur participant of Inktober, I am proud for braving the cover illustration from my beginner’s ink/pencils sketch collection. While writing this, I read an inspiring quote by Dr A.P.J Abdul Kalam: “Confidence is better than perfection because perfection means doing the best, but confidence means knowing how to handle the worst.” To that, I testify to embracing imperfection and the learning journey, even in beginner’s sketches gracing my book cover.

Congratulations to all winners and finalists!
